Meeting dates and events
Please note that there will be no meeting on Good Friday, 2 April. The normal meetings will re-commence on 9 April.
Patshull – 5 to 7 March
A successful weekend camp was held at Patshull. Sixteen Scouts attended. The weather was kind – dry, if cold. The Scouts were split into three patrols, each with new leaders and a mix of age and experience. The object was to enable the younger Scouts to gain practice for the main summer camp, particularly in fire-lighting and cooking, as well as teamwork. Generally this was successful, with one patrol in particular doing extremely well, led by Thomas Twigger.

Other activities included a hike to Pattingham and quizzes and games in the evenings. The Scouts blew our plan away on Sunday by insisting that they got up at 6.00am (little more than twilight) to get an early start on their fires and cooking, after being a bit slow on the Saturday. Despite the frost and the cold, they got washed and brushed and three good fires were soon lit. By 9.00am they had all enjoyed a full cooked breakfast, washed up and cleared their cooking areas, and had time to play. A great effort!
I hope all the Scouts enjoyed the Camp and I must thank the other Leaders and particularly Alun and Mick for their help and participation. I hope they enjoyed it too.
Patrick will be putting more photographs on to the website in due course.
Other activities
A combined Cub and Scout event took place on 12 February, with a night hike along the canal to the old Avenue Bridge, where food and drink was supplied (again by Alun and Mick – thank you). It was good to see the two Sections mix well and hopefully will help the younger children in their transition to Scouts from Cubs.
Cub and Scout Night Hike
We will soon be embarking on the Cycling Badge work, and I will probably be asking for some parental support in this. The Scouts have to plan and carry out a 25 mile road ride. If anyone can help with cycling with the children, marshalling road crossings or providing help with refreshments, I would be grateful. I imagine the ride will be on a weekend towards the start of May.
