2nd Brewood Scout Troop

Newsletter February 2011

Please note that Scouts will continue to meet each Friday up to 29 July, except for Good Friday.

Over the last couple of months the Scouts have been bowling at Strykers and more recently visited Bill Maiden’s shop in the village and were shown how to make beefburgers.  Many thanks to Bill and his staff and to Beccy for organising the event.

Together with the Explorers, the Scouts have been busy making bat boxes to be deployed at The Sandbeds.  A lot of work and (unusually!) a lot of care went into these and hopefully the boxes will be to the liking of the local bat population.

Website

Rob Davies, Explorer Leader and Scouter-in-Charge, has put a lot of time and effort into overhauling the Group’s website.  There is a new “look” to the site, with much improved functionality.  There are regular news updates and a useful Google calendar to help keep tabs on events.

The website is to be found at www.2ndbrewoodscouts.org.uk.

Group Camp at Kibblestone – April 2011

Hopefully everyone knows about the Group Camp arranged for 8 to 10 April.  Consent forms will be issued shortly.  I would remind parents that they can come too!

Summer Camp – 30 July to 6 August 2011

Summer Camp for 2011 will as usual be the second week of the summer holiday.  It has been decided this year to visit Sherratts Wood, near Sandon and about 4 miles from Stafford.

Sherratts Wood is the Staffordshire District Scout Camp Site and provides open fields for camping and games, together with a large established woodland.  There should be plenty of opportunity for bivouacs and wide games.

This year we will be trying to economise on transport costs, and will be asking parents to assist as much as possible with the transport of the Scouts to avoid the expense of a minibus.  A van will still be needed to tote equipment – does anybody have one?

The Troop will also be asked to do some fundraising to help pay for activities on the camp.  This may be car washes or jumble sales.  In any case, your support will be gratefully received.
